Thought I’d share the writer’s journey with you. Here’s what’s happening on the road to publication. For a more intimate discussion, make sure you’re signed up for my Author Insider Club.
January 1st, 2014 | Songs of the Shenandoah Launches!
It is definitely bittersweet to have the concluding novel of your trilogy launch.
Of course, it’s exciting to know your novel is on the shelves of bookstores across the country and beyond. But there is also a sadness when you realize you are saying goodbye to characters who have played such a large part of your life.
I can’t wait to hear what my readers think about the last book, set during the Civil War-era. So far, the feedback has been extremely encouraging.
July 15th, 2013 | In Golden Splendor Launches
All in a day I lose my status as a debut author. Now with the second in the Heirs of Ireland Series launched my rookie status evaporates.
Obviously a small price to pay for the joy of seeing the my next novel come out. And having all of the experience of the initial launch behind me, it’s with eyes wide open I approach this most recent release.
Is this as exciting a launch as the first one? Surprisingly, there are many elements that make it even more so. Because now I have an audience of devoted readers who look expectactantly at the next novel in the series.
A little pressure? You bet. But that adds to the enthusiasm of the launch.
June 15th, 2013 | Edits Completed For Songs of the Shenandoah
After two long years and more than 300,000 words, the third book of the Heirs of Ireland Series is complete and off to my publisher. What will I do with all of my free time?
Actually, it will be spent reclaiming my life once again. This has been a difficult journey! Writing three full-length historical novels in less than two years has been one of the most difficult ventures I’ve faced. Okay…the most difficult. Mostly because as a new author I also have a full-time job running my marketing agency. Writing is not yet my only job.
Most of all I am excited to have the summer before me and I’ll spend so much of it with my family who have made so many sacrifices to make this all possible.
January 1st, 2013 | Flight of the Earls Launches!
At first it seems like your book launch will never happen…just some distant sail on the horizon.
But as the date nears, life begins to speed up and before you know it, that magical moment occurs.
The most exciting part about a book launch? Is getting to connect with your readers. Nothing is more encouraging than hearing back from those folks who have enjoyed the writing, your characters and the plot.
Just makes you want to write more…which as a matter of fact is exactly what I’m doing. The deadline for Songs of the Shenandoah, the third book is the series approaches!
December 15th, 2012 | Website Revision
It’s amazing how quickly time goes by when you’re on writing deadlines! With Flight of the Earls officially releasing in two weeks there was much to do in order to update the website.
I went through and added pictures, updated links and put in the many glowing endorsements that came in from some of my favorite writing friends.
December 10th, 2012 | Author Copies of Flight of the Earls Arrive!
Received my first copy of Flight of the Earls just last week and now my author copies have arrived (100 in total). Most of them will be expected to go with my first book signing planned at my Rotary Club, where I will be presenting about the writing journey.
May 18th, 2012 | Website Revision
It’s been a while since I spent a lengthy amount of time updating the website. The reality is you get so busy with so many other areas of the writing life, it’s easy to put these kinds of tasks on the back burner. With deadlines creeping up in the rearview mirror it can be difficult to surrender a whole evening of writing to upgrades to the site. But it was time. The main changes were to highlight the upcoming release of the Heirs of Ireland series.May 18th, 2012 |
May 16th, 2012 | Launching Author Insider Club
What’s a writer these days without a tribe? In today’s publishing world much of the process of promoting the book is put on the writer’s shoulders. According to Seth Godin, with 1,000 tribe members you can practically take over the world. I’m not interested in taking over the world but I am excited about connecting to a dedicated group of readers. I hope you decide to sign up the Author Insider Club. I promise to make it worth your while. Click here for more details.
May 15th, 2012 | Title Naming for Book Two
With Flight of the Earls far down the editing process much of my time is now being dedicated to Book Two of the Heirs of Ireland series. I spent most of last weekend putting together a long list of title possibilities and then narrowed it down to five choices, with one being my faraway favorite. Today, in discussion with my acquisitions editor at B&H Publishing Group, Julie Gwinn, we went through the choices. The options are now off to the fiction team to work on making the final selection. Stay tuned….
